Print it or open it on your phone when you go to buy. All 15 steps take 20–30 minutes and avoid most of the ways a used laptop can disappoint you.
What to do when you find a fault
- Minor, acceptable faults: one dead pixel in a corner, battery wear under 20%, light scratches. Use them to negotiate.
- Walk-away faults: drive health Caution or Bad, lines or tint on the screen, several dead keys, very high temperatures with a noisy fan, any sign of liquid damage.
- Always ask for at least 3 months of warranty on a used laptop and get it in writing.
